TRON Legacy Fic: Of Warm Jackets, Sleeping, and Arcade Games (1/1) PG
Title: Of Warm Jackets, Sleeping, and Arcade Games
Rating: PG
Pairing: Sam/Quorra
Genre: humor, fluff,
SPOILERS: Yes
Disclaimer: TRON: Legacy belongs to Disney
Betas: none, so please forgive mistakes
Summary: There was a long silence, and she chanced a sideways glance at him. His eyebrows were raised and his face had turned a little red.
A/N: I don't even know what this is, to be honest. I was working on my other fic that I've mentioned to you guys briefly before, and then part of this came into my head. Once I started working on it more ideas just flooded in and before I knew it I'd finished this in one sitting. I never intended to write a "Quorra's in the User world now" fic, but it just happened anyway. :P Also, even though I've now seen the movie twice, I can't remember if Marv was male or female, and my instincts were really strong it's a she, but if I'm wrong, oopsies, just pretend it's a he. xD Be aware though that it is only one out of two fics I've written in the last 6+ months so I am really pretty rusty in terms of writing. Still, I'm happy with the way it turned out and I hope that you guys enjoy it. :)

Of Warm Jackets, Sleeping, and Arcade Games

The human heart was something frequently mentioned in all the User books that Quorra eagerly read.

She approached Flynn once, back in the early days, with a hardcover cradled in her arms. He was working on the light cycle again, sprawled on his back with pieces and components spread out around him. Normally, he would hear her entrance or sense her presence, and greet her. But there was only the sound of tools and metal and scraping, and she waited a patiently a moment, biting on her lip, before she spoke up. “Flynn?”

There was an awful zapping sound, and his whole body jerked. “OW!! Dammit,” his arms dropped and he scooted out from under the vehicle, grimacing as he looked up at her. “Hey, Quorra. Might wanna start a little softer next time.” He shook out his hand and brought it up to his mouth. She noted this was an odd habit of Users, to soothe a wound by putting their mouth to it.

“I didn’t mean to startle you,” she apologized. “I can come back—”

Flynn waved his hand dismissively. “Nah don’t worry about it. What’s up?” He gestured to the book still in her arms. “Reading away again?”

She looked down at the book, pulling it away from her chest and rubbing her thumbs over the cover in an almost nervous fashion. “Yes...”

“All right, I know that look,” he said with a smile. “You have a question.”

She nodded.

“Well? Out with it.”

She took a few steps closer to him, and stared at him with all eager curiosity. “What is a heart?

The first time Quorra felt the heartbeat of a User was in the User world. Sam was sitting on his light cyc—motorcycle, and he gestured at her. “Come on, get on.”

She hesitated, not quite understanding. With a tilt of her head and a few blinks, she told him, “But you’re already sitting on it.”

His expression was baffled for a moment, and then he seemed to pick up on what she meant. “It’s not a light cycle, two people can ride at the same time.”

That... did not sound very effective or safe.

He gave her a gentle, exasperated smile. She really liked it when he did that. “Quorra, trust me. Get on.”

She had trusted him from the moment she’d saved him from the Grid games. With a half-nervous smile, she moved toward the bike, throwing her leg over the side and settling herself on the seat. She blinked at the back of Sam’s head, then glanced down at the side of the motorcycle, looking for something to hang onto.

“Put your arms around my waist,” he directed from over his shoulder.

She did as he instructed, her gloved fingers sliding over the leather of his jacket as her hands moved around his frame until they rested against his stomach. For a moment, she was dazed by the feel of his breathing, in and out, in and out, steady, slow.

“Good. Now hang on and don’t let go, all right?” He didn’t wait for her acknowledgment, twisting one handle on the motorcycle and making it roar to life.

Quorra jumped a little, the sound much louder and rougher than that of the light cycles. And then a huge grin spread across her face, and she hid it against Sam’s back, in the soft cloth of his sweat-shirt hood. He picked his feet up off the ground as the bike moved forward, and with the small movement Quorra tightened her hold around him. With her chest pressed to his back, that was when she felt it.

It was the faintest thrumming, a soft beat beat beat vibrating through his back and into her skin. It was a little like music, only... smaller, quieter. It was unlike anything she had imagined it to be. It was amazing. She snuggled closer to him, wanting to feel it better. It picked up in speed a little, and she smiled.

Temperature did not exist in her world. She’d read about cold and heat and the wind in Flynn’s books, and when she asked him about it, he had a difficult time explaining it.

He’d looked at her for a moment, then at his hands, and lifted them to rest on her bare shoulders. “That,” he said with an expression of success, “That’s warmth.”

Quorra had concentrated on the feel of his hands, and tilted her head as she asked, “Are all Users warm?”

Flynn had laughed, but she did not feel embarrassed. She never felt inferior around him, and liked the way the skin around his eyes would crinkle when he smiled. “Pretty much, yeah.”

It was not long before Quorra discovered that a User’s body heat was very different from the warmth of the sun. It was on the same night that she discovered what being cold was like.

Sam had brought her to ENCOM. It was not her first time there, though she still felt oddly uncomfortable in a place so large and so full of Users. So full of... computers. There was so much User speak that she didn’t understand, and it was both exhilarating and frightening to watch their fingers fly across flat electronic surfaces and see programs follow their commands—on this side, in the User world, it was so immensely different. Programs were just jumbles of lights and words and little square windows. Flynn had tried to explain it to her once, but it didn’t fully have an impact on her what it was really like until she saw it for herself.

And so, while Sam worked and did what Users do best, she had found some escape on the roof of the ENCOM tower. No one had told where to go or how to get there; she had found it on her own. Admittedly, this was partly because she remembered Sam mentioning doing a similar stunt off this tower as he had from CLU’s tower. She had wanted to see it.

She leaned against the railing, staring down at the city below her, entranced by the sight of it. Time passed so differently in the User world and she wasn’t sure how long she was there before Sam came to find her.

The door that she had come through opened behind her, and she immediately looked back to see who it was. So many years on the run in the Grid had taught her constant awareness. She relaxed when she saw that it was Sam, and he looked relieved to have found her.

“Hey,” he greeted, walking up to stand beside her. “So this is where you disappeared to. What’re you doing out here?”

“You were busy,” she told him. “And I wanted to see what it was like up here.” She turned wide, curious eyes to him. “Is this where you jumped from? When you mentioned it to Flynn?”

A little hint of a smile pulled on the corner of his mouth, and he nodded. “Yeah. Right over there,” he pointed to the large crane that extended out past the building’s edge.

She tried to envision it, and imagined it was not much different from when she and Sam had done it in the Grid. “Was it fun?”

“Uh... you could say that. Hurt like hell, though.” He tilted his head as he regarded her suspiciously. “Don’t go getting any funny ideas.”

Unconsciously she had brought her arms around herself, and she was shaking slightly. Sam picked up on it immediately. “We should go. You’ll freeze out here.”

“Is this what cold is like?” she inquired, intrigued by the feeling, painful and unpleasant though it was.

“Yeah,” he said, and for some reason he was taking off his leather jacket. “Not very nice, huh?” he asked with a little smile, and reached around her shoulders to pull his jacket around her.

She didn’t understand why he was giving her his clothes until he’d tugged it snugly around her, blocking out the cold completely. It was so warm. Warmer than anything she had felt before. It was wonderful. She grabbed fistfuls of the jacket and pulled it closer, snuggling into it.

Sam watched her for a moment and his smile grew. “Better?”

“Yes, thank you,” she grinned, looking up at him. He was very close, near enough that she could feel his small puffs of breath across her cheeks, where she could see the similar smile lines around his eyes that his father had. He was watching her intently, and she could feel the heat of his hands even through the jacket where they still rested on her arms. It seemed, for a moment, that part of her system wasn’t functioning properly; she could not form a thought or a word or feel the wind tousling her hair.

“Won’t you be cold now?” she managed with great effort, unable to take her eyes away from his.

He seemed amused at her concern, his eyes crinkling further as he shrugged. “I’ll be fine. Come on,” he lightly pressed his hand to the small of her back. “Let’s get outta here.”

Sam hadn’t lied; the sun was very warm indeed. But she liked having his jacket much better.

Scents and smells of the Grid were few and far between, often dull and not terribly note-worthy or with much variety.

The Creator had a very potent, unusual fragrance. It was nothing she could put a name to, but it was pleasant and so colossally different and she liked it. It only made sense to her that Users would smell so delightfully wonderful.

Over time, it dissipated. Quorra had assumed that this was because she spent so much time around Flynn that she’d grown accustomed to it and could no longer pick up on it as well. It was a little disappointing, but eventually it became unimportant, and every once in a while she would get a small whiff of it when she returned from a lengthy trip to the Grid.

Almost everything in the User world had a scent to it. It was astounding and a little overwhelming. She made herself feel a little woozy after sniffing the bag of food Sam had brought home, before Sam pulled it away and told her to stop it (with a half entertained, half concerned expression on his face).

She loved discovering the smells of the User world, whether it be from their food, their cleansing soaps, their pets, clothes, even books. But her absolute favorite was Sam’s smell.

It was so much like his father’s, and she’d missed it dearly. It was a small part of Flynn left behind for her to remember him by. But it was also more than that, because it was slightly different. Like Flynn’s, she couldn’t put a name to it, because she didn’t yet know all the smells associated with what objects in the User world. She dug through her memory banks and tried to find good User words she’d read in their books; adjectives such as familiar, warm, cozy, homey, and lovely came up, but none of them seemed quite right.

Above all, it made her feel safe.

They sat one night on Sam’s couch, their feet propped up on the coffee table and a bowl of popcorn squished between them as they watched a movie. Quorra snuggled deeper behind the couch pillow she had trapped under her arms, and shyly pressed her nose into the sleeve of Sam’s tee shirt. He didn’t say anything, perhaps didn’t notice, and she closed her eyes as she breathed him in.

She didn’t see the way he looked down at her, with a knowing smile and tenderness filling his eyes.

The first time she’d caught Flynn sleeping, she’d panicked. The only time programs ceased to move was if they were injured or their system had shut down.

“Flynn!” she cried in alarm, and darted for his sprawled form. It didn’t take much shaking at all for him to jolt awake.

“Whoa, whoa! What is it?” he asked groggily as he sat up.

“Are you all right?” she asked urgently, wide eyes sweeping over him to make sure he was fully intact, that nothing was wrong.

He blinked at her for a moment, then scrubbed his eyes with his fingers. “Yeah, I’m fine. Why?”

“You weren’t moving,” she told him, the fear evident in her tone.

Something seemed to click in his mind and he smiled a little. “I was sleeping, Quorra. It’s a User thing.”

“Sleeping?” she repeated, mouth forming around the odd word. “I haven’t read about that yet. What is sleeping?”

“Uh...” Flynn looked contemplative as he pulled himself into a more upright position, running his hand through his sleep-tousled hair. “How do I put this in computer terms? It’s like... Like a recharge period for Users. We have to shut down temporarily in order to let our functions rest and get ready to go again when we wake up. It’s kinda like a reboot.”

She stared at him with something like awe. It was a foreign thought to her that Users needed such a thing, when programs didn’t. “How often do Users... sleep?”

“Every night.”

The look on her face must have been something, because Flynn had burst out laughing.

The first time Quorra saw Sam sleeping, she did not panic. She had become so accustomed to it after spending so many cycles in Flynn’s company.

He was on the couch, slumped over on his side with his face half buried into a pillow. The glow of the laptop screen cast a strange blue light across his features from where it sat forgotten on the coffee table, and it reminded Quorra of the Grid.

As with everything else about the User world and Sam Flynn, this sleeping process fascinated her. She had never seen another User sleep, and she couldn’t take her eyes away from the sight. She watched the way his ribs expanded outward as he breathed, studied how peaceful his expression was, how his mouth was just slightly open against the pillow. He was so still.

She crawled forward on her hands and knees, trying to be as quiet as possible, and peered closely at his face. His eyelids fluttered slightly, lashes brushing against his skin, and he made an odd half-breathing half-snorting kind of a sound that almost ruined her silence completely. She had to bite on her bottom lip to squelch the laughter welling up inside her. She continued to watch him, and was amazed when his eyes started to make this strange moving motion, as though he was looking around behind his eyelids. Tilting her head for a better angle, she leaned in a little closer. She had never seen this phenomena, but then again, she hadn’t watched Flynn sleep quite this closely.

She must have been too close, somehow he must have sensed her, because his nose wrinkled and his eyes stopped doing the moving thing. His brow furrowed, changing the peaceful expression to a baffled but equally pleasing look. What was the User term? Adorable. She was pretty sure that was the right word.

That was when his eyes slowly opened, and she was starring straight into his very blue, very sleep-filled irises. It took less than a nanosecond for him to register how close she was, and he jolted, nearly smacking into her and startling her. Half propped up on the couch, he was giving her the most quizzical look. “Damn, Quorra,” he rubbed a hand over his face, “You scared me.”

“Sorry,” she bashfully apologized, ducking her head a little. “I didn’t mean to.”

He cleared his throat, and when he spoke again, his voice sounded less sleep-strangled and more normal. “S’okay. What... what were you doing, anyway?”

She fidgeted with her hands in her lap, and stared at the loose sock on his foot. “I was watching you sleep.”

There was a long silence, and she chanced a sideways glance at him. His eyebrows were raised and his face had turned a little red. At this, she almost smiled, because she’d never seen a real blush before. Sam Flynn was full of all sorts of surprises.

“Are you upset?” she inquired quietly. “I’m sorry. I’ve seen Flynn sleep many times over the cycles, but your eyes were moving, and I haven’t seen that before.”

Realization seemed to dawn on him then. “I must’ve been dreaming. It’s uh... a thing that happens sometimes when User’s are dreaming.”

“Dreaming!” she exclaimed excitedly. “I’ve read about dreams. Flynn explained them to me.” She leaned her elbows against the couch cushions, knees still on the floor, as she looked up at him enthralled. “What were you dreaming about?”

“Uh, well I don’t really remember,” he admitted, seemingly regretful to disappoint her.

Her enthusiasm died a little, her shoulders slouching, but she wasn’t entirely disheartened. “Flynn told me about that, too. He said sometimes he remembers them really well and other times he doesn’t even know he had been dreaming.”

Sam got that look again, the one he always got whenever she mentioned her time with his father. It was a slightly misted look, far away and longing and full of envy. It never ceased to put sorrow coursing through her data streams.

But it didn’t last very long, because when she looked at him again, he was smirking. “Yeah, we’re definitely gonna have to find you something to do at night.”

Quorra was not used to being alone for long periods of time—and in the User world, time seemed to move at an extremely low speed.

It didn’t bother her so much at first when, at the start of a new day, Sam had asked her to stay at home since he had to attend a number of meetings at ENCOM.

“I want to come with you,” she told him genuinely. “I can help.”

He was reluctant, but didn’t give in. “I know. And I want you to come, ‘cause it’s gonna be as boring as hell. But it’s just for this one time, okay? I’m still pretty new over there and there’s a lot of change going on. There’s gonna be a lot of bigwigs there that normally aren’t, from other parts of the world, and I don’t want people nosing around about you just yet. Not until we’re ready for it.”

Sam had explained to her that her sudden appearance in this world was not all that different from his in the Grid, that it was like not having an identity disc, and that it could cause a lot of trouble. She didn’t want to cause trouble for him.

“Okay,” she nodded, feeling a little left out and not entirely cheerful at all.

“You can keep Marv company,” he tried for a little smile, gesturing to his pet, who was watching them from where she was curled up on her bed. “She’s not used to being here by herself all day.”

He got on his motorcycle with the promise he’d be back soon, and she supposed it must’ve been “soon” in User terms, but to her it felt like an eternity. She watched TV for a while, still fascinated by it and the Users in it and the things she saw and heard. But it didn’t hold her interest for long, so she started paging through the magazines stacked up on the coffee table. She’d already been through them all at least five times before, so her attention was not very captured by them.

The sun had vanished behind the horizon and the sky was full of black and stars by the time the garage door hummed and pulled open. Quorra was on her feet in an instant, and the nanosecond Sam had gotten off his bike and pulled off his helmet, she’d crossed the room and flung her arms around him.

He stumbled back a step or two, startled. He laughed into her hair, breath warm against her ear as he hugged her back. “Whoa. Bad day, huh?”

“Don’t ever do that again, please,” she begged into his shoulder. “It was unbearable.”

“I’ll do my best,” he said with a smile.

She knew she should let go of him now, but... she didn’t want to. It felt nice, being this close to him and having his arms around her waist, palms resting flat against her back. She’d only ever been this close to him on the motorcycle. And besides, he didn’t seem to mind. He hadn’t let go of her yet either. Her arms tightened a little around his shoulders, and she hid her mouth in the leather of his jacket. Her hair rustled, and she felt the soft press of his nose against her head.

“Quorra,” he spoke softly, and so near to her ear his voice was lower and gentler and closer than it’d ever been. It sent a strong prickling feeling down the length of her back.

They were interrupted by the high pitched whine of Marv, who was pawing at Sam’s pant leg. They parted immediately, though reluctantly.

“Hey Marv,” Sam greeted his small companion, and knelt down to give her some fond scratches behind the ears which made her tail start wagging furiously. “Missed you too, girl,” he grinned, and planted a little kiss on the top of her head.

Quorra stood feeling rather bereft as she watched Sam and his other rescue with a little smile.

Quorra had never been kissed before. It was not an action unique to Users, for it was a common practice in the Grid just as it was in the User world. She’d simply never had the time, hadn’t ever known the right program, and had never really even cared.

Her first time was in Flynn’s old arcade, and she wasn’t even the one to start it—though she couldn’t deny she hadn’t thought about it once or twice.

Sam had brought her back, and at first she’d thought they were going back to the Grid.

“No, no,” he’d corrected with a little shake of a his head. “Not yet anyway. I wanna show you something.”

She had, of course, seen the long rows of machines the last time she was here, and Sam had later explained to her what they were. But when he flicked a switch and the entire room powered up with lights and color and banging music, she stood in the middle of it all in awe, and it wasn’t long before a huge smile blossomed across her face.

“Like it?” Sam shouted to her over the music.

“I love it!” she told him.

“I haven’t even showed you what we came for yet,” he laughed, and grabbed her hand. Their fingers automatically intertwined, and he led her over to the TRON arcade machine.

She knew it immediately, for it needed no real explanation. Flynn had told her all about TRON, the program himself, and the game that was based off Flynn’s previous adventures in the ENCOM system. She’d not entirely understood the concept of a game from the Users' perspective, but her eyes followed the light cycle lines stretching across the screen in amazement.

“Wanna play?” Sam asked, holding up a quarter.

She looked from the machine to him, and then back again. “Wont it hurt them?”

“It’s different from in the Grid. These guys weren’t made for anything else other than gaming.”

She was still uncertain, but he was a User, and he was Sam. And would Flynn have created the game, after knowing about the Grid, if it was harmful to them? The very idea was unfathomable. “How do I do it?”

“Here,” he pulled her in front of the arcade machine, and reached around to place her hand on the control stick. “You move the light cycle with that. And this is vintage style, so they can only go in straight lines.”

She was still uncertain for the first few rounds, almost losing to the computer on purpose. But she gained confidence, and it wasn’t long before she was having more fun than she’d had in a very, very long time. She hadn’t quite grasped the idea of games being fun before now. She was grinning ear to ear and bantering back and forth with Sam, who was laughing and teasing her and standing entirely too close and he was so warm even now.

Somewhere along the line, he’d fallen very quiet and she worried she’d done something wrong. “What is it?” she asked, pulling her eyes away from the screen to look at him.

She was startled to find him staring at her, no longer smiling, but not looking like anything was wrong either. Everything seemed to go very still then, her hand motionless on the control stick, the background noise of games and music going dull.

He leaned in a little, and his mouth parted. His eyes searched her face, a very careful, almost questioning light in his features. She didn’t move, gaze locked onto him. He moved to slowly close the space between them, where she first felt his hair press into her forehead and the tickle of his breath. Then his mouth found hers, and it was as though everything she’d ever noticed and adored about Sam Flynn flooded through her very code. It was all heat and his heady smell and she could feel his heartbeat against her arm where he was leaning in.

It was everything and nothing like she’d thought a kiss would be like, and it was as delicate as it was fleeting. He pulled back, resting his forehead against hers for only a moment before lifting his head and opening his eyes. Her own fluttered open, and he looked so uncertain.

“Was that oka—”

His voice was muffled by her lips crashing into his, her hands fisting in his jacket as she tugged him closer. She could feel his heart hammering furiously against her hands, and the sharp breath through his nose across her cheek.

Sam Flynn was nothing even remotely close to the vision of him that she had compiled in her mind over the cycles. He was even better. And even though she’d never even processed such a scenario and never intended for this, no matter what happened now, she knew that she would never regret this moment through the rest of her runtime.

When they parted, she copied his earlier action of pressing her forehead to his, nuzzling her nose along his own. She couldn’t keep the grin off her face, and even through the small distance between them, she could feel his smile and his breathless laugh.

“Took you long enough, Sam Flynn,” she teased.

He pulled back just far enough to meet her eyes, and his grin matched her own. “I guess I’ll take that as a yes, then.”

Sigh ... that was wonderful. And the first TL fanfic I've had a chance to read. Love your characterizations of Sam and Quorra and the slow build to the end. Your writing is terrific, too.

Aww, thank you! I'm glad that, as your first TL fic, it wasn't all disappointing or anything. :) Yay!

Love your characterizations of Sam and Quorra and the slow build to the end. Your writing is terrific, too.
It is always wonderful to hear when characterization is good, but never moreso than when it's a first fic for a fandom. Glad you liked the end too, and my writing style, even if it is rusty. ;)

Thank you for reading and for all the fabulous comments, maxiekatt2!

This was lovely fanfic! I love your writing style - easy to follow and full of great detail (I really enjoyed the section where you described Quorra watching Flynn as he slept, then appropriating it to Sam in the real world.)

You really captured the character's personalities; especially Sam's 'self-confidence' and Quorra's child-like curiosity and naievity.

She looked from the machine to him, and then back again. “Wont it hurt them?”

The fluffiness of the relationship between the two was awesome (plus the possibility of Quorra interacting with Marvin is just too adorable to bear!). Will there be more fic from you? *puppy eyes*

Awwww thanks. That's always great to hear anyway, but especially so when I've been out of the fanfic game for so lengthy a time. :)

(I really enjoyed the section where you described Quorra watching Flynn as he slept, then appropriating it to Sam in the real world.)
Tee hee! It was never an original plan to keep doing Flynn vs Sam parallels but somehow that just kept on happening as I wrote. I'm glad you liked the sleeping bit so much, thanks for pointing out your particular fav. :)

You really captured the character's personalities; especially Sam's 'self-confidence' and Quorra's child-like curiosity and naievity.
Yaaay! That is always particularly fabulous to hear when it's a first time for a fandom fic. :D And it wasn't entirely easy either, since they've only been in one movie. xP

The fluffiness of the relationship between the two was awesome (plus the possibility of Quorra interacting with Marvin is just too adorable to bear!).
I'm so glad you liked the fluffiness! \o/ I wanted to capture their adorableness from the movie, so. I tried. x) And yes, hehe, I almost had a scene with Quorra and Marvin but it didn't quite fit, so I didn't. :P

Will there be more fic from you? *puppy eyes*
Well I have that other one that I posted a mini excerpt from the other day, and I really want to finish it, but I'm kind of stuck so. We'll see what happens. No promises, but I'd like to. I'm glad you want more from me, that's a totally awesome compliment. Thank you! :D

And thanks for all the great comments here on this one, I'm so glad that you enjoyed it! ♥

Thank you for writing this because it's exactly what I wanted to see for a Sam/Quorra fic. Your Quorra is amazing and I really love how you're handling her transition to the User world. All the little details in this are fabulous. ♥

Awww, you're welcome! And I'm so glad to hear this is what you wanted. I've read a few Sam/Quorra fics myself now and none of them have felt right to me, so I guess maybe that's part of what influenced me to do my own with this kind of theme, Quorra in the User world. :)

Your Quorra is amazing and I really love how you're handling her transition to the User world.
That's so great to hear, especially since it's my first time writing her. So yay! :) But I'm glad you like how I wrote her, 'cause in those fics I've read her character was always either far too ignorant than she should be or a jealous immature child or... well, you get the idea. I wanted to do her character justice, so it makes me happy you liked what I did with her. :)

All the little details in this are fabulous.
Aww thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it overall. I appreciate the wonderful comments. ♥ :)

He gave her a gentle, exasperated smile. She really liked it when he did that.

So matter-of-fact iz ADORABLE.

She grabbed fistfuls of the jacket and pulled it closer, snuggling into it.

GAH BRAIN MELTING FROM FLUFF.

She loved discovering the smells of the User world, whether it be from their food, their cleansing soaps, their pets, clothes, even books. But her absolute favorite was Sam’s smell.

Is it terrible of me that when I read this I immediately thought of someone else, also adorable, who explored the world through an unconventional sense? And I love how innocent she is, she goes *straight there* about Sam's scent instead of dancing around it like a User would. Quorra watching Sam sleep = the JE-hug level of adorableness.

I loved the contrast between the RW and the Grid and how they tied in here. Characterization A+ (though are you sure Quorra doesn't need to sleep?) and Sam helping Quorra adapt to real world is such a natural follow-on to the story. Because you know that if there's a sequel it's going to focus on events in the Grid, not real world. So I'm very glad Tron: Legacy got you to write fic.

So matter-of-fact iz ADORABLE.
Kee! I'm glad. :D I wasn't sure how the bluntness would work. I figured she'd be all innocent and straight forward like that.

GAH BRAIN MELTING FROM FLUFF.
D'aaawww I'm glad to hear it!

And I love how innocent she is, she goes *straight there* about Sam's scent instead of dancing around it like a User would. Quorra watching Sam sleep = the JE-hug level of adorableness.
Haha, I remembered her Jules Verne fangirling and I thought, she might be the same with other things. Back to the innocence and straight forwardness I mentioned. :) And I'm so glad you liked the sleeping scene, especially that you gave it such a level of adorbz grade! Thank you! ♥

Characterization A+ (though are you sure Quorra doesn't need to sleep?)
It's fab hearing you liked the characterization, especially since it's my first time writing them. :P And no, I'm not positive Quorra and/or programs don't need sleep, but there wasn't really anything in the movie to suggest that they do, and it wouldn't really make any sense. So I just ran with it. :)

and Sam helping Quorra adapt to real world is such a natural follow-on to the story. Because you know that if there's a sequel it's going to focus on events in the Grid, not real world.
I'm sure there will be some of the real world in it, but in order to be a true to form TRON movie, then yes, it will have to take place in the Grid. We wouldn't want it any other way really, now would we? ;) This is just the in between before they go back, hee!

Anyway, thank you so much for all the fabulous wonderful comments! I appreciate it so much and I'm so delighted you enjoyed this so thoroughly. :D

I am always in total awe of anything by you that I read, and this was particularly surprising in the level of emotion along with the ingenious hotness and just great characterization all around. It all felt very real and clumsy and warm.

I think my favorite parts are the little things, for instance when she tightens her hold on him on the Ducati and his heart just speeds up. Sam's jealousy at all the time Quorra shared with Flynn, which came across as very sad for both of them. All of Quorra's memories of Flynn.

I also love that you kept Quorra a program, she's still not completley human and you can feel how she is the outsider in this scenario but she has Sam as her anchor and he is just smitten with her. That first kiss was amazing! It's so appropiate that it happened at the arcade too. I wonder if Sam was planning to make a move all along or if it was just the teasing and enjoying each other's company that brought it on?

I really hope you write more of these two. AGFSFHSSHKGDIJ SO AWESOME.

*sputters* I... what... O_o That is a way totally awesome and far better response than I could ever have hoped for. Especially since I feel so rusty. Ingenious hotness, LOL. I'm glad it wasn't like, awkward or felt forced or OOC or anything. And as for clumsy, I'm glad that came across, I just have this feeling they'd both be a little clumsy with each other at the start. :)

I think my favorite parts are the little things, for instance when she tightens her hold on him on the Ducati and his heart just speeds up. Sam's jealousy at all the time Quorra shared with Flynn, which came across as very sad for both of them. All of Quorra's memories of Flynn.
Wheeeeeeeee I'm so glad you noticed/mentioned his heart going wild at her tightening her arms around him, hee! And yes, him jealous of her time with Flynn has been a thought I've had since before I even saw the movie and hardly knew a thing about it. So I had to include it. I'm glad you liked it. :)

I also love that you kept Quorra a program, she's still not completley human
You know tbh I don't understand the reasoning I've seen in fic that she'd suddenly be all humanized in the User world. That doesn't really make any sense. Both Sam and Flynn were still 100% totally human in the computer world, they were Users, through and through, it didn't change. Why should that really be any different for Quorra going to the real world? Plus, Kevin Flynn was convinced she was the key to saving humanity from all their natural ails. That wouldn't apply if she wasn't still an ISO/program in the real world. WOW /ramble but you get my point I think. So yeah, I kept her a program. It was natural for me and felt right.

and you can feel how she is the outsider in this scenario but she has Sam as her anchor and he is just smitten with her.
Aww that's everything I wanted to show!! Yay! I'm especially glad since I didn't go into a whole lot of detail on how she's an outsider. And I'm definitely glad Sam's smitten-ness came through since this was all Quorra's pov and very... careful? on the level of romance I guess is the only way I can think to put it atm. x)

That first kiss was amazing! It's so appropiate that it happened at the arcade too. I wonder if Sam was planning to make a move all along or if it was just the teasing and enjoying each other's company that brought it on?
I'm so glad, I was worried my writing skillz had gotten so bad it'd be terrible. It's been even LONGER since I've written even kissing, so. Yeah. And I'm totally relieved you liked that it was at the arcade! It felt completely appropriate to me as well, but I wasn't sure if others would share that feeling. So yay! :D As for whether Sam had it planned all along or not, I'll leave that up to you to decide. ;) Though there is a definite answer to what I'd had in mind when I wrote it.

I really hope you write more of these two. AGFSFHSSHKGDIJ SO AWESOME.
Awww thank you for the awesome support and encouragement, bb! I'm so glad you liked this enough to want me to do more. I'm hoping to finish that other one, I'm just kinda stuck on it. :P But yeah I wanna do more for sure.

LMAO, I *do* love your writing. Your Tony/Pepper stuff is still among my favorite fics (and I've read a lot of Pepperony. A LOT.) so I had high hopes for your Sam/Quorra stuff. You did great, bb.

And yes, him jealous of her time with Flynn has been a thought I've had since before I even saw the movie and hardly knew a thing about it. So I had to include it. I'm glad you liked it. :)
It's such a big part of who Sam is. He spent the better part of 10 years brooding over his daddy issues so it's not like that just goes away. They did reconcile and all but I figure it still hurts him. I'm glad you went there because it doesn't seem like many authors are willing to :D

IA, though that raises so many questions like what happens if someone stabs her? Users bleed when they were injured on the Grid... so, does that mean that she can de-rez in the real world? I'm so confused. Also, it's going to be real hard for them to study her ISO DNA-thing without anyone noticing.

Crap, now I can't stop thinking about this. You are so evil HRS.

Well of course it's not going to go away. It's not even the hurt and brooding but just that he had that great bond with Kevin as a child and he was MISSING THAT for 20 years, and then FINALLY got his dad back again for a fleeting few hours before it was ripped away from him for good. That vacuum isn't really ever going to be filled or heal, and I find it'd be perfectly natural for him to completely envy how much time Quorra had with Flynn. This needs to happen more in fic, because it's so much of Sam's character, like you said. Anyway I'm rambling. I'm glad you liked it. Hee!

Probably I imagine what would happen would be whatever would happen in the Grid. Whether or not she'd derezzed or just be partially damaged, like when her arm was shattered she didn't derez. But I agree, it'd be difficult to heal her or even study her without her disc. :/ Maybe they'll find a way to connect her to a computer in some way... LOL! Like a cylon. xD

Hey this was not my fault, you started it! :P

I think this could cause issues in possible sequels, imagine if Dillinger or any of the corrupt board members get her and try to use her for evil?

I keep remembering Olvia mentioned Splash (the movie about the mermaid) and how that was really cute but in the end she had to go back to the ocean because the goverment just wanted to cut her open to study her. Ow.

Sam should totally find a way to keep who she is secret.

ALDKJF{SOWEIWTWO{TIUW MORE FIC IDEAS!!!!!!!!! *FLAILS*

Yeah somehow I don't think Quorra in User world is going to be permanent, but that makes me sad to think her and Sam will be separated... Who knows what will happen. I JUST WANT THEM TOGETHER OMGGGGGGGGG. NO ANGSTY SEPARATION. But I'm sure they will go back to rebuild the Grid or for some reason to help them build the future Kevin Flynn was trying to do etc etc (with TRON's help!) and Alan's help.

Anyway I could go on forever. But yes. SO MANY POSSIBILITIES. SO MUCH POTENTIAL!!! DON'T GIVE IT UP DISNEY!!!!!!!!!
Mara: Iron Man - Pepper | Heart of Iron Mannani1986 on December 28th, 2010 04:31 am (UTC)
Maybe they can hide or something. Sam's a billionaire and all that. I doubt Quorra will willingly go back to the Grid after being in the User world. Sam already lost Kevin, he's got pretty much nothing but the "change the world" idea and Quorra. If they take that away then it's a pretty depressing ending for a Disney movie.
humansrsuperior: TRON: Sam/Quorra_Closeuphumansrsuperior on December 28th, 2010 04:32 am (UTC)
Good points there. She probably wouldn't want to be apart from Sam either, as he is all that she has now.

THEY CANNOT GO DEPRESSING ROUTES NO PLEASE!!! Happy endings only. Especially for Sam/Quorra. x)

That was absolutely fantastic! You did an amazing job of capturing the world from Quorra's perspective. Her curiosity and uncertainty, as well as how she specifically would see the world really came through. And her way of seeing Sam is just lovely. Your attention to detail, as always, just adds to the story. My favorite part: "she first felt his hair press into her forehead and the tickle of his breath." So incredibly vivid.

Awwww I'm so glad you think so. It was a little daunting of a task to take on, ngl, but I'm glad it worked out well for you. :)

This I'm particularly happy about that you say that. Especially since the ship is... well, kinda the point of the fic, hee! ♥ Thank you!

Wow. If I never read another "Quorra discovers the real world" fic, it will be all right, because yours is no doubt one of the best. I think it's interesting how she was the one who knew what was going on in the Other World, and Sam was the fish out of water, and now it's reversed.

I love Quorra's inquisitive nature, and how she persists (but without being annoying) until she gets an answer.
